Gulmarg
The Meadow of Flowers
About Gulmarg
At 2,650 metres above sea level, Gulmarg — literally 'Meadow of Flowers' — is one of Kashmir's most spectacular destinations. A vast, bowl-shaped alpine meadow ringed by snow-peaked mountains, it transforms dramatically with every season. In spring it erupts with 200 varieties of wildflowers. In summer it is lush green pastureland. In winter it becomes India's premier ski resort, blanketed in up to three metres of powder snow.
The crowning glory of Gulmarg is its Gondola — one of Asia's highest and longest cable car systems, soaring to 3,980 metres on Apharwat Peak. From the top, views stretch across the entire Kashmir Valley. Skiers from across the world come for the runs here — long, uncrowded, and blessed with some of the best powder in Asia.
In summer, Gulmarg is a paradise for trekkers, horse-riders, and anyone seeking pure mountain air and jaw-dropping scenery. The legendary golf course — operating since 1891 and among the highest in the world — adds a quirky, colonial-era charm. Whether you visit to ski, trek, or simply sit in the meadow and watch clouds roll over the Himalayas, Gulmarg is unforgettable.
