Tulail Valley is the quieter, more remote continuation of the Gurez landscape, reached by travelling beyond Dawar through the upper Kishanganga valley. The route follows the river past mountain slopes, small settlements and broad views that feel very different from Kashmir’s busier sightseeing circuits. It suits travellers who value scenery, village life and an unhurried journey more than a checklist of commercial attractions.

A Tulail excursion is best planned from Dawar rather than as a rushed day trip from Srinagar. Starting early gives time for photography, riverside stops and short walks without putting pressure on the return journey. Road conditions, security checks and local movement instructions can change, so the practical turnaround point should be agreed with a local driver on the day instead of treating the farthest village as guaranteed.

The valley’s appeal lies in its traditional settlements, timber-and-stone homes, cultivated fields and the Kishanganga River framed by high mountains. Different seasons change the colour of the landscape, from fresh green slopes in early summer to warmer tones later in the season. Visitors should observe village life respectfully, ask before photographing residents or homes and avoid entering fields or private property without permission.

June to October is usually the most practical travel window, subject to Razdan Pass, Gurez and Tulail road conditions. Rain, landslides, early snowfall or administrative restrictions can affect access at short notice. Even in summer, carry a warm layer and a light rain jacket because temperatures can fall quickly after sunset or when clouds move into the valley.

Facilities become limited beyond Dawar. Carry drinking water, snacks, essential medicines, sufficient cash and a charged phone or power bank. Mobile connectivity may be weak or unavailable in sections. Fuel, accommodation and meal stops should be confirmed before departure, and travellers with medical concerns should remember that advanced healthcare is not close to the remote parts of the route.

Tulail works especially well as part of a two- or three-night Gurez stay. One day can cover Dawar, Habba Khatoon Peak viewpoints and nearby Gurez sights, while another is reserved for Tulail. This avoids combining too many long road sectors and makes the experience safer and more enjoyable for families, photographers and older travellers.
